It wasn’t exactly raining, per se, but it was spitting just enough to let little water droplets gather on the grass and leave a hazy mist floating languidly three feet above the aforementioned grass. The birds were still chirping happily to one another; there was still the odd assortment of noises being emitted from the Forbidden Forest. There was still the occasional creaking noise from the Whomping Willow as it swung out at a bird, butterfly, or some other being who dared come too close.
It was also almost nighttime. Dusk was just setting in, casting splashes of pink, orange, yellow, and red across the blue sky and the green horizon. Rush Valentine’s face was a mixture of all of these colors as the sun slowly sank lower under the Earth and the moon rose high above it. She was lying in the grass in the middle of the Quidditch Pitch, staring at the slowly darkening sky. It was so pretty out right now, and she didn’t want to miss this. Sunsets were a time when Rush could let her imagination run completely.
Her hands were behind her head like a makeshift pillow, her hair fanned out behind her in every which way. Her knees were up in the air, her feet planted on the ground. Her light blue trainers (complete with the rainbow laces) were slightly dark from the wetness, and the backs of her jeans (most likely boys’ from the looks of them) were wet from the grass as well. Her T-shirt was white, with a picture of Ariel from The Little Mermaid on it, and she had a towel under her back, so that wasn’t wet.
Sunsets always reminded her of unicorns, and Prince Charming (though she wasn’t quite sure which one—there were so many of them in Disney movies, and they all looked different), and, for some completely odd reason, Snickers. She could almost see his face hanging above her in the mist that hung two feet above her head. Almost. She could almost see the unicorn dancing on the rainbow in front of her. Almost. And she could almost see Prince Charming, riding off into the sunset atop a beautiful white horse. Almost. Why almost? Well, she wasn’t completely concentrating. She was singing, as well. Her voice was soft, but the words flowed, perfectly in tune, perfectly beautiful, from her lips nonetheless.
“When I see your smile
tears roll down my face
I can't replace.
And now that I'm strong I have figured out
how this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul,
and I know I'll find deep inside me, I can be the one.
I will never let you fall
I'll stand up for you forever
I'll be there for you through it all,
even if saving you sends me to heaven.
Seasons are changing and waves are crashing
and stars are falling all for us
days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one.
I will never let you fall
I'll stand up for you forever.
I'll be there for you through it all,
even if saving you sends me to heaven.
Cause you're my
you're my
my true love
my whole heart
please don't throw that away.
Cause I'm here, for you
please don't walk away and
please tell me you'll stay, stay...
Use me as you will
pull my strings just for a thrill
and I know I'll be okay
though my skies are turning gray.
I will never let you fall
I'll stand up for you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
even if saving you sends me to heaven.”
